As part of my last semester at Emerson College, I decided to enroll in their Los Angeles Campus, which is centered around accquiring a internship over the course of that semester. Unluckily for me and the rest of the campus, this was in the midst of the writer’s strike. The industry had grinded to a halt. It was us, every single other film student in the area competing for the same abysmal amount of internships. Thankfully, everything worked out and I was brought on as a production assistant intern to their studio/live event space situated in the heart of Compton.
This role was one of the most pivotal periods of my life. I had moved to a landscape that was unlike anything I had experienced before, struggling to acclimate and adopt the LA mindset. My time here taught me that conformity is not rewarding, instead dedication to your loves and embracing yourself. I truly learned how to come out of my shell and fight for what I wanted here.
